I have prepared a few different lists for You. I hope You will find them useful - in fact I'm sure You will! I'm planning on putting up some free graphics to use on your pages, send me a mail and tell me if that would be of interest. Well, on with the show!

| Introduction to HTML - learning to walk. | When the time to build your own homepage has come, you suddenly realize that You have no idea how it's done! Everyday you visit stylish homepages on the net, but when you take a look at the source-code, you silently scream. It's not as hard as it looks! HTML is a really simple and effective way to organize text and pictures. In a few moments, you'll agree with me! Check out the right column to see the (few) items you need to get started! | What do I need to get started? |
|---|---|
If you do not have the necessary items to start building, take a look at these links. There you will find all that you need (have you bookmarked this page so you'll find your way back? If you have everything, then let's get started! It's time to learn a little about the concept of HTML. | |
Let's get one thing straight: HTML isn't a programming language - it's a markup language. This means that we put tags in a document, and then the browser will interpret our tags. If we have done our job, then the browser will show things just the way we planned. Some elements are always a part of a HTML document, these are listed to the right. | <HTML> <HEAD> </HEAD> <BODY> </BODY> </HTML> |
As you can see, all tags are inside brackets. At the closing of a tag, there's a slash inside. Time for an example. To create bold text, we use the tag <B>. Inside the body element (see above) we'll now put some code. This is what we will add: Can we make this text <B>bold</B>?Below we see the result. Notice that we start and end the bold section with the <B> and </B>. This is important to remember. | |
| Can we make this text bold? | <HTML> <HEAD> </HEAD> <BODY> Can we make this text <B>bold</B>? </BODY> </HTML> |
Now we have come pretty far! What have we learned so far? By now it's time to try for yourself! Start with the following code: | |
|
<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>My first page</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <CENTER><H1>This is the first page!</H1></CENTER> <BR><BR> <P>Now I can see that it wasn't all that hard to create my own page after all! </BODY> </HTML> Have you tried it now? Did you notice that we didn't have to use a closing tag for the line break (<BR>) tag? This is because it isn't a container, i.e it's an "empty" tag. | |
| Spread your wings now, and start experimenting with the different features of HTML. The key is to try and to practice. Although there aren't a lot of tags to keep in mind, there are a lot of ways to use them to create the effect that you want. If you remember the structure though, nothing will seem strange or impossible. Check out the hints to the right - some mistakes are easy to make... Good luck! |
