Ginkgo Biloba
In many of my pictures a leaf appears. With the freedom of the artist, somewhat changed, it
carries the form of the leaf of a ginkgo tree, the oldest
tree in the world. Many million years old. A thrilling perspective of time. For me a multiple concept that both enchants and
frightens. I see the ginkgo leaf as a symbol of time, infinite as well
as finite, something that combines the old with the new,
the continuity in life. The ginkgo tree is a mythical tree, and I am not the only
one to be captivated by this fact.
Goethe, among others,
wrote a poem about Ginkgo Biloba. The beautiful form of
the leaves has thus become a sign or symbol of love,
duality, community. In the Far East, moreover, the healing effects and the
positive impact on raising mental capacity derived from
this leaf, have been known for thousands of years and
Ginkgo Biloba has thus obtained a status of holiness
among buddhist monks in the East.
